Weekly Seven Minute Torah podcast by Rabbi Micah Streiffer:
Making modern meaning from ancient texts! Each week Rabbi Micah Streiffer discusses the weekly Torah portion in about 7 to 12 minutes, through liberal Jewish eyes. We weave together philosophy, spirituality, tradition, and social justice – and derive meaning for today‘s life from our sacred sources. Longer episodes include a bonus interview with leading rabbis and Jewish thought leaders. Click HERE for the Podcast
From the earliest days of Operation Rising Lion, IMPJ’s Center for Community Development has worked with each of our congregations to map the evolving reality, assess needs, offer support, and shape recovery plans. They’ve encountered elderly members and families whose homes were damaged, some evacuated to hotels in unfamiliar cities, some already facing the certainty that they will not have a home to return to for at least a year. Among them: a single-parent household, a family with a child with special needs, and many others now confronting the painful task of starting over. We are helping to locate long-term accommodations, furnish new apartments, and provide support for basic needs. Behind every request is a person, a story, a congregation, one of our communities doing its utmost to care for its members while holding fast to its spiritual and communal center. We don’t know the name of the owner of this shoe, nor where she was from. There is a small possibility she survived the deportation. But, in all likelihood, within hours of arriving at Auschwitz she was murdered and her shoes thrown onto a pile with all the others.
Created by Musealia and co-produced by the Auschwitz Memorial, ROM’s presentation of this exhibition is made possible with support from The Azrieli Foundation, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, The Hennick Family Foundation, The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
