We don’t know the name of the owner of this shoe, nor where she was from. There is a small possibility she survived the deportation. But, in all likelihood, within hours of arriving at Auschwitz she was murdered and her shoes thrown onto a pile with all the others.
Created by Musealia and co-produced by the Auschwitz Memorial, ROM’s presentation of this exhibition is made possible with support from The Azrieli Foundation, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, The Hennick Family Foundation, The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
